Kirk writes: "When I graduated from college in 1978 I wanted to write fiction. It took far longer than I had imagined, decades longer to write and sell a first novel. Looking back it was likely lucky to be out in the working world and helping raise two daughters and learning something about life first. I work from my office in Berkeley now, though take it on the road too. I travel a fair amount and get outside any chance I get. This morning after four years of drought it’s raining in a cold windy familiar way. I have coffee and a story I want to work on and wind blowing rain against the glass doors of my office. That’s pretty good."
